An Unbelievable Color Film of Berlin, July 1945
Great history for the kids to view, and to refresh the memories of the older group.
I was stationed at RAF Gatow in the British Zone in 1953 before the Wall was built.
They were just beginning to clean up the destruction caused, in 1945, by aerial bombing and mostly Russian tanks.
Interesting that I also took the ?S? Bahn Underground railway to Potsdammer Platz (in the video), in civvies, in the Russian Zone for a very brief visit.
The only building I saw that was not totally destroyed was the Olympic Stadium where, in 1936, the black USA athlete Jesse Jones won 4 gold medals to the horror of Hitler and his ?uberman? theories.
